Vagelisations on how to get into work after a holiday

A lot of people come back to work at this time of the year. Whether they had the days between Xmas and New Years off or if they had a few weeks off, coming back to work after a relaxing vacations sucks big time.

Unfortunately there are magical cures for the first day/week of work. We have to get back into things. We need to earn the $$$ so we can live, pay bills and maybe take another holiday later in the year.

Time to get up at 6am, travel with the masses, reply to ridiculous emails from idiots and work!! That adage about 9 to 5 is crap...we all know it is 7 to 6 in most cases. By the time you get home...you hardly have time for yourself before you have to hit the sack so you can function the next day.

Don't you wish you made better use of your school/university holidays!!!

Ok so how do we get over the holiday blues. Through extensive researce and guesswork I have come up with the following:

1. BE POSITIVE

I think there are only about 5% of the working population that really enjoy their job but the rest of us have to work as we have to eat.

You have to put yourself in a positive frame of mind. Think of some of the things you enjoy at work - the people (probably some of them), free internet, discussions about weekend sports, the location, the money. Anything that will keep you in a positive state of mind.

For me I always stay positive on the people, as they make work enjoyable for me.

2. SLEEP

Get a good nights rest before work. You will feel less grumpy and irritable if you actually get a good 7 or 8 hours. Whatever makes you function. Please also note that if you sleep too much, say 9 or 19 hours you will actually feel tired as your body had entered another sleep cycle and you have rudely interrupted it.

3. ITS A NEW YEAR

Heck yeah, a new year puts people in a positive frame of mind. Its like a new beginning, so attack the job with gusto. Focus on your goals or milestones for the coming year be it another holiday, some new things you wish to buy, a house or a car.

That's all there is really.

Stay positive and the work week will be bearable. Above all...remember this:

WORK TO LIVE, NOT LIVE TO WORK

The Victorian Government needs to act now!

Last night a poor human of Indian decent was stabbed in an inner western part of Melbourne. He was just walking to work but he was set upon and stabbed. From news accounts, it appears he was not robbed.

I simply can not fathom why would someone do this?

Was it just a callous act by a group to see what is like to take a life? Too act tough in front of their mates?

Or was it a racist attack?

I personally feel that a lot of thugs and low life’s out there feel that Indians are an easy target. Indians may make a lot of noise in public when with friends, but generally they respectful people and would not start fights (of course if there is a bhangra night on, this rule does not apply).

The State government has said they do not believe that RACE was involved. I personally believe that it was, simply for the fact that Indians are being targeted as they are “easy”.

Now I do not think Indians need to get into gangs, as it won’t solve anything. It will just result in a lot of fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, wives, girlfriends losing a loved one – and this wont be prejudiced by skin colour or ethnicity.

What the Government needs to do is act tough, otherwise we will be in a situation to some of the rougher parts of the world like America and UK. You have seen the movies, read a few accounts. The situation is some places are so bad it appears that the authorities have given up.

Yet here in this great state of Victoria, WE have a chance to stop things before it gets really bad.

The Government needs to step up with criminals. The Police have new search laws for individuals to determine if they are carrying weapons. Don’t give them a slap on the wrist. Send them to jail for a few years.

Passing laws that deem an attack based on race and subject to greater punishment is too subjective.

Just make any act of violence or aggression against another human a severely punished offence. Teach the criminals a lesson that this is not what the society wants. You do a crime, you serve some serious time.

Some of you out there will say that people need to be rehabilitated they deserve a second chance, and there is some merit there. I believe in second chances, but only if they will learn from the wrong.

These criminals have to be taught a lesson. If it is their first crime, send them to a minimal punishment facility, a place where they can be educated to value life but not a place where they will learn to be part of a gang (such a maximum punishment jail).

But at the end of the day, above and beyond all that.

The Government needs to send a message that this behaviour is unacceptable. They need to take a tough stance now so the next 5 years will not see an escalation.

Australia is a beautiful country with great people.

Lets keep it beautiful. We can do it now.

First post - a new decade??

Well it is time to let the world that with the dawn of a new year it is time I Vagelised everyone (but in reality this is not gonna happen).

But to start off this new fangled blog, I want to discuss this whole 2010 thing being a new decade.

Technically it is not a new decade, 1 January 2011 is the start of the new decade. This is why:

When the ancient Romans started the calends, 2009 years ago, they started the first day as 1 January 01 - That is to say we did not start in year "0", but at "1".

After year 1, we had year 2, then 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and then year 10!!

Can you see where I am going here.........a decade comprises of 10 years....we are now in the tenth year of the first decade of this new millennium.

But I face reality sometimes, and the media and masses see this year as the new decade, so lets just roll with it.

We had some bad things - terrorism, the global financial crisis, reality TV and George W. Bush.

But the good outweighed the bad - digital music, facebook, blogs to allow narcissists (like me) to feel we mean something, online freely avaliable p0rn, torrents and many other wonderful inventions.

But these topics and many more will come, one of my resolutions will be to get on here and post something regularly.

Happy 2010 everyone!!
